Sandalwood is known for its calming properties and is cooling in nature so it is great for Pitta types whose skin can be acne prone. As mentioned in my previous post: My Facial Care, I make a sandalwood paste to cleanse and exfoliant my face as it is natural and I have found it works well for me. Sandalwood can be found in indian grocery stores and is cheap to buy. The ones I buy are only 99 cents per ball. Only a little bit is needed to make the mask and one ball usually lasts me up to a month!
Step 1: I start by breaking off a small amount with my hand into a small bowl. You can also use a grater if the sandalwood is tough to break.
Step 2: Crush powder with the bottom of a spoon to form a finer powder.
Step 3: Add a few drops of water to make a paste. Only a few drops is needed or the mixture will be too runny and it won’t form a nice paste.
Step 4: I splash my face with some warm water before putting on the paste as it can stain a little bit, this helps to create a bit of a barrier to reduce yellow staining.
Step 5: Spread mask evenly over face, leave on for 15 minutes and then wash off with lots warm water whilst gently massaging the skin to exfoliate.
I use this mask once or twice a week and leave it on for 15 minutes as I have found that to be the best for my skin type. For the first time, I recommend to dilute the mixture a bit more and leave it on for 5 minutes and see how your skin feels after. Once you put it on your face you will see how cooling it feels and how relaxing its aroma is!
